Hi, I used my sister and my mom’s information to get credit cards and loans and I used their already issued credit cards without their permission. They both checked their credit reports and found out about it.They have both threatened to press charges and are in the process of filing a police report. What criminal charges and punishment am I looking to face currently. Do you think I will serve any jail time? I am in Pennsylvania and under Pennsylvania law.
yes, hopefully you will serve some jail time for it.
the jail time has increased.
that was really rotten and inconsiderate of you to do that, even worse that you would do it to your own family.
I called the medical insurance company for information on benefits that my child’s father is supposed to carry on our son. In order to access this information you have to provide the SS# of the sponsor. Is it considered identity theft if I changed our child’s address with the insurance company to our new address? The NCP is stating that it is.
The NCP will not provide the corect information to me, will not provide proof of insurance, and refuses to cooperate with court orders. I did send the insurance company the appropiate information concerning the situation such as custody orders and that is when they provided the information.
OK, so you called the insurance company to obtain account information for your child.
The company asked for the insurance card number, which you do not have. So, you provided sponsor’s SSN.
Then you mentioned that the child actually lives with you, and asked for insurance paperwork to be sent to your address.
You have court ordered custody of your son.
No, that is not identity theft.
Do you think that it is worth the money? Serious answers please.
I have not signed up for this, nor would consider it. There are a few reasons why:
1) It’s a monthly charge for something you could do roughly every 90 days for free (I’ll get into this more later)
2) I can’t guarantee the security of this company, and while I don’t have a choice on my own personal information in many companies – signing up for another just seems pointless for me.
Lifelock seems to be more of a convenience thing for people, and if you feel the money is worth it then maybe it is…but for me it’s not. Why?
- Protecting your credit – I did this once, because a CD with SSNs were stolen and mine was on it (although unidentified and they think it just went missing) – but I called the credit companies and put a lock on my credit. Any time an account is opened or anything changed – I’m notified by call first thing, and I have to OK it before it proceeds.
- Protecting from spam – From calls, you have the Do not Call list, which is free to sign up to.
- Protecting from spam – From mail. There are some nice guides that go over this..this response took awhile since I was reading how to do this..haha
So there’s my reasons…I wouldn’t buy lifelock.
How much time can my husband get he has thirteen felony Identity theft charges against him in dekalb county ga . This is his first offense .
13 first offenses….oh well, if you are going to go, go big.
Depending on what the conditions are, he could be looking at 5-6 years easy. Just not enough info here to tell
I lost my socila security card
am I screwed ? how can I prevent someone stealing my identity ?
I wouldn’t worry much more than normal. Think about it – you give your SS number all over the place. One time, I had fraud done against me and it was traced back to a medical office. Lots of people see your SS#. Just check your credit reports, and hope someone honest finds it!

Instead, Paulsen and Bush just gave out a blank check stimulus money.
Why was that?
because they thought they could deceive the country!!
My entire department lost their jobs due to a reduction in force. I am a technical SAP Consultant and technical Project Manager and have posted my resume online on Monster.com. There are 2 episodes that happened and I would appreciate your feedback and opinion. This has never happened before and I am protective of my social security number because of all of the identity theft. Also, I had never heard of the companies and thought they were new hiring agencies:
The first incident…
-The very first thing they said in their email: "Send your social security number asap." I replied to their email with the following "where is this project located, is it long term or short term, what are the project requirements?" They replied again with "send me your social security number asap." No other wording in the email. Of course I did not reply.
The second incident….
-This person started with "thank you for your interest in the project, send your social security number, 3 documents with proof of your technical work for the past 3 projects, and the names of 3 companies you worked for, with reference names and their telephone numbers." Shouldn’t this information be obtained from me until AFTER I at least speak or email them regarding the project requirements, location, start date, my qualifications and if I am a fit for the project or company? Also, I would not give documents to anyone with a company name on it as I value the confidentiality of the companies I have worked for.
I have a feeling these are fronts for people trying to steal information since they have no web site, only an email address, or is getting a person’s social security number and other company private information standard these days from job hunters?
Thank you…
Anyone who asks for your Social Security number up front is a scam or trying to get a look at your credit report. Never, ever send them your social security number unless you’ve met them in person, seen the company and are in the final stages of getting the job. Never put your SSN on the internet – ever.
How can we protect ourselves from the credit card industry? They are allways putting charges that I don’t have.
Read and understand what you sign before you sign it, or simply follow Bulldogs advice.
I can’t believe I gave him a thumbs up but for once he’s right.
The difference is this time you actually answered the question, most times you simply rant.
I’m highly stressed and angry at the fact that one my family members threw away contents with my personal information. Almost everything I have was in the bag, and they mistaked it for trash. My bank account statements, school information, pin number, addresses, and social security were all contained inside the bag.
Now, what the fuck am I suppose to do?!?!?
I have an identity theft plan and nothing else. Is there anyway to change my social security? bank account? or anything to protect my identity. 2009 so far has been fucked up for me.
First calm down. You can put your account on fraud alert through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-800-680-7289. They will notify the other 2 bureaus and it must be renewed every 90 days in order to keep it active. As far as your social security, they also have a fraud dept. Their toll free 1-800-269-0271. You can cancel all your cards and pin number. As stated, in most cases it’s in the trash but if it would make you feel safer, then do it and have a good nights sleep
